What to do about your to-do list

What’s your relationship to your to-do list this morning?
How are you doing at differentiating between the Important things and the Urgent things today?
The Important things are those that ensure your mental, emotional, relational, physical and financial *well-being and peace.* Your hopes and dreams are included here (yes! In the Important category!)
Our Important things are so foundational that maybe it seems almost absurd to check in with them, but it really is vital that we do. How well are you taking care of those things- for yourself and the other people you’re responsible for?
Now, how about those Urgent things?
The Urgent things are those that get all up in your face and jump around shouting “Quick! Pay attention to me or I’ll explode!” They’ll often be accompanied by anxiety and demand that you make quick decisions. It would behoove us to take a good, hard look at the Urgent things, though, before making any choices about them, because they usually try to convince us that they, too, belong in the Important category.
It’s essential that we keep our eyes wide open, that we categorize tasks and opportunities correctly, so we don’t sacrifice Important things for the sake of the Urgent. When we’re aware and aligned with our Important things, our answer to the Urgent is usually obvious, because we understand that the role of the Urgent is to serve the Important.
"Beloved, I wish above all things that you prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers."
3 John 1:2
